2008 Report to the Nation
U.S. organizations lose an estimated seven percent of their annual revenues to fraud, according to a survey of Certified Fraud Examiners who investigated cases between January 2006 and February 2008. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) published the results of the survey in its highly-anticipated 2008 Report to the Nation on Occupational Fraud & Abuse.

New Guidelines For Fighting Fraud Released
New guidelines for fighting fraud have been released jointly by three leading professional organizations. "Managing the Business Risk of Fraud: A Practical Guide" is sponsored by the ACFE, The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Principles for establishing effective fraud risk management, regardless of the type or size of an organization, are outlined in the guide.

ACFE Member Murdered In Jamaica
ACFE member Douglas Chambers was murdered on June 27 outside the head offices of the Jamaican Urban Transit Company, where he had been working to clean up corruption and restore the company to profitability. An article in the Jamaica Observer attributes the killing to job cuts that Chambers was announcing; an editorial in the Jamaica Gleaner, however, attributes the murder directly to Chamber's stand against corruption.
